Hollow encoder (clamshell) source wanted

I am looking for a hollow shaft encoder/tachometer
similar to a Northstar RIM TACH HS85, but that
could be attached to a lineshaft without requiring
the shaft to be disassembled.

Any ideas, anyone?

I have found that brand to be far more reliable than others.

more of a 'ring tach' with a cutout

What I'm looking for might also be better described
as a ring tach, with a cutout suitable for slipping
_over_ a shaft, as opposed to _through_ it.

if you need Quadrature I haven't seen anything but if you don't you could use one of these split gears and a mag pick-up sensor.
