iRConnect Fanuc Robotics, Anyone used this? Does it only support OpenRelay SMTP?

I'm looking at iRConnect for a customer of ours and testing it to see if its a worthwhile solution, but it appears to me that it requires an openrelay smtp server/smtp server that doesn't require credentials to send email, and while I can setup an smtp service for sending the emails this is a total security flaw and just opens us up to getting a blacklisted address that would allow anyone to send an email through our service.

Or is there someway to use credentials? the configuration options don't seem like they're very extensive.

Off the top of my head, my first thought is to keep it behind a good firewall, and I know little to nothing about how to implement that.

I have not heard that particular package discussed here, so I would recommend you try some robot specific forums. I have used this one with some decent feedback:

Spoke with Fanuc about this issue, they state they'll be adding ssl and authentication in a later update. I'm surprised something like this could even be brought to market using open smtp relay's (those have been frowned on since the 90's)

And you're correct, setting up the relay so it's only accessible internally from specified IP's is a solution, but its not a solution i'd like to use since it's still fairly insecure.
