Largest PLC-installation?

Just curious SLC_Integrator if you are affected by the natural gas 'Boom' out there. I spent a few years in western colorado and the place was going nuts a few years ago when I left. I was offered several opportunities on compressor/ remote monitoring/ refining installations.

Right now its a good chunk of our business though we are careful to keep the other markets well looked after in case the bubble bursts.

We have a department that specialises in well optimization and compressor station advanced control and theyve been busy, especially with companies that havnt dealt with the big temperature changes here finding the limitations of what simple compression control packages can handle.

To add to that the local refineries are busy with both capacity expansions and clean fuels (ULS Diesel and now ULS Gasoline)requirements so the DCS side of things (which I look after) has been doing well too. A planned product pipeline from here to Las Vegas is a big deal right now as is the Pioneer crude line expansion from down into the valley. Our panel shop is pretty stuffed with all the stuff for that particular job.

There is more to come once the Rocky Mountain Express pipeline is completed in 2009, and theyre looking at extending that from Ohio to Maine. Rumour mill is also saying another line is planned from the Opal Hub to Oregon which would stretch things even more.

The big plant at Opal is now up to 1.1 Billion a day and rising so it looks like theyre expecting it to get even more hectic.

The Piceance Basin area is also doing well. Our group down there has also been doing alot of well automation and compression plus some of the more mature wells are getting a freshen up with added automation/optimisation and some workover stuff.

All done its a pretty good market right now.

Just dont tell anyone.......

I hear rumors that the IMFlash facility near us has some 400 ControlLogix processors installed. I have no idea of the IO count or it how stacks up in size, but no matter how you look at it, thats one hell of a lot of processors.

I heard the other day that they have finally started to get a handle on all the server and SE problems, not out of the woods yet but better than it has been.

I'd love to get in there and have a look around. The fan deck alone supposedly has 130 drives.

ughh...that has to mean many other servers too. makes you wonder if guys are moving toward a virtualized infastructure...

I know for a fact they have 14 RSView SE data servers.

I also know it isnt doing so good.
I have enough trouble with the little 2-server SE installation I look after for a client.
