Bob O asked "What is a 4-20 mA simulator?"
If you do any process control this is an essential device. It is a signal generator that lets you put a controlled current signal into a loop. They run anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars to over a thousand, but the cheap ones are all you need. Just make sure it has the ability to be either loop powered or self powered, and that it has a potentiometer to let you vary the output steplessly on up. In a pinch you can make your own with some resistors and a pot, which is what I do for shop testing panels with lots of signals. For field use, though, I use a commercial unit (it is more rugged and looks professional). Some Fluke multi-meters have the ability to generate/simulate the 4-20 as well as read them.
