Quick simple question (I think)...

I have a ML1100 that already has an Automation Direct HMI connected to the 9pin (round) serial port on the side. I was wanting to connect a bar code scanner to this PLC, but I assume I cannot since the serial port is already used for something else. Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something before I decide this cannon be done (without buying some new equipment).

This is my first ever dabble in the world of bar code ASCII, so I figured I should ask just to make sure. Thanks ahead of time.

Unfortunately no...HMI has no ethernet capabilities, only serial.

Which AD HMI are you using? Does the HMI have another port? It could read the barcode and then send it to the PLC, or process it in the HMI. I don't know if the AD HMIs can do this but I've run barcode readers through Redlion HMIs a few times.
