I am trying to connect a PLC-5/40E to Ethernet via a 1761-NET-ENI. After reading several other forums and technical sheets I have connected the PLC-5 to the 1761-NET-ENI with a 1761-CBL-PM02 and a 9 pin to 25 pin straight thru adapter (pins 2 and 3 flip flop). This arrangement unforunately yields no communication between the ethernet bridge and the processor.

Before any connection was made I connected to the PLC via DH+ and changed the port settings on the PLC5 channel 0 to 19.2K and switched error checking to CRC. The processor connects perfectly to my PC via a CP3 cable (SLC500 crossover RS232 cable) and the same 9 pin to 25 pin adapter so I know the serial port is working.

Anyone else run into this issue? I don`t know if its a cabling problem or something is wrong with the 1761-NET-ENI.

Why are you using a ENI? the 5/40e is Ethernet so can you just connect to the Ethernet port on the PLC?

Yes, the ethernet works perfectly fine. However, there is no serial traffic and the 1761-NET-ENI only appears as such on RSlinx. I am thinking it is either a serial setting issue on the PLC5 or a cable issue.

a cable issue.

Have you tried both with the PM02 cable? 2-2 3-3 and 2-3 3-2 ? I know you tried one way if yes then I dont think its a cable issue, the cable listed in the manual is a PM02, other then that the cable should be fine

Yes, I have tried both. Albeit my null modem 9 pin to 25 pin is homemade. 2-2, 3-3, 5-7

Below are the Rslinx RS232 settings that worked.

Just to let everyone know that I did get it to work. Seems as though the PLC-5 in general decides to connect only when it wants to. What I did was update the 1761-NET-ENI EDS file for RSlinx. I also restarted the ENI multiple times and finally my PLC-5 was shown in RSlinx.

The cables that work is a standard 1761-CBL-PM02 and a straight through DB9 to DB25 cable.

P.S. It connects and goes online via RS Logix 5 perfectly.
