After connecting via remote desktop connection to a Siemens VM, can I use the ports on my laptop to connect to a S7-300 PLC via a RS232 MPI/DP adapter. I'm using an omron USB to 232 convertor on the laptop at com port 1.

I have enabled port sharing in the remote desktop settings, but can't get this to work!

I use a Keyspan serial converter and have connected thru my VM. Not sure how you are configuring your port though. My serial adaptor shows up as a USB device in removable device list then as the MPI module once I config/start my Siemens Driver software. I usually have to Connect and disconnect a couple of times to get it to work.

I have no idea. I use a MPI adaptor from Siemens. I plug one end of the adaptor into my USB converter and the other into the PLC.

Seems the only way to get this to work is to install Simatic Net on my office laptop. I think I'll wait until the USB to MPI/DP adapter I've ordered, is delived to me. At least that comes with a driver CD.

PS: ClayB, Thanks for the input. It's really appreciated !!
