what is the s: instruction in logix pro 500?

Instruction or memory location?
If memory, I'd assume it holds the System bits.. things like the first scan bit, math overflows, and such.

If you look at the project tree to the middle left, of the software you will see, 4th down below from "Help", "Processor status", click on that, then read all the help file about the topics it will be up
