Hi, as a 3rd party repairer I work with Siemens Part Numbers on a daily basis, I often wonder what makes up a Siemens Part Number.
Is their a Break Down Table explaining the make up of Siemens Part Numbers.

I believe the last digit is version number .
I work in Drives 6SC611 6SN611 and PLC 6ES5.

Hope you can advise

First part is the family.

6ES5 - Step 5
6ES7 - Step 7
6GK7 - CP's for Step 7
etc.

Second part is the item range

317 - CPU 317
321 - Input for S7-300
322 - Output for S7-300
131 - DP input modules
132 - DP output modules
442 - CP for S7-400

Third part are the specific for that item.

1BH00 - 16x 24vDC
7BH00 - 16x 24vDC Interrupt
1BL00 - 32x 24vDC

Last part is foggy for me.

6ES7 321 1BH00 0AA0 = 16x 24vDC input card for a S7-300 series PLC
6ES7 322 1BH00 0AA0 = 16x 24vDC output card for a S7-300 series PLC

I'm not sure if there exists a break down table, haven't found it yet.
All I know is from personal experience using Siemens HW.

Third part are the specific for that item.
the last two digits of this part seems to be an firmware version of some sort.
like this for example: the 6ES7414-3EM06-0AB0 is a compatible successor of the 6ES7414-3EM05-0AB0. e.g. you don't have to change the hardware configuration to swap the "05" with the "06".

however if you change the HW-config to "06" you can't go back to "05" hardware

but, still no real clue about their "system". also curious ;)
