SLC rack as RIO for PLC5

Hi

I have a setup with a PLC5/20E and an SLC-rack with a 1747-ASB communication module.

The SLC-rack setup is as following
slot 0 ASB-module
slot 1 1746-NI8
slot 2 1746-NI8
slot 3 1746-NO4
slot 4 1746-NO4
slot 5 1746-NO4
slot 6 1746-IB16
slot 7 free
slot 8 1746-IB32
slot 9 1746-OB16
slot 10 1746-IB32
slot 11 free
slot 12 1746-IB32

I want to use another 8 channel analog input module. When I try to insert this in slot 7, I get the error message P08.
This apparently means "I/O module placement error. the I/O module in slot 8 may have its image overlapping the image of the I/O module in its paired slot".

AFAIK, the ASB module is set to 1-slot mode, so why is this analog module overlapping its paired slot?

The configuration for the ASB is as following:

1 slot addressing means 16 bits per slot.
Slot 8 is 32Input, 16bits used from slot 8 and 16bits from slot 7 to give 32.
Slot 12 uses 16 from slot 12 and 16 from slot 11.
Slot 10 uses 16 from slot 10 and 16 from slot 9 as card in slot 9 is an output card so input bits can be used for extra inputs for slot 10.

Putting another input card into slot 7 will overwite/mess with the 16 input bits that slot 8 uses, an output card could be used but not an input card.
In your program look at the input addressing for slot 7 and 8 and you should see how the empty slot is used by the 32 bit module.

Just confirming what Greg said. He is spot on.

Those empty slots are empty for a reason.
