Hey,
I have factorytalk studio ME version9.it will generate "unable to communicate with the factory talk linx server localhost" every time I try to do communication setup.
it hasn't have this problem until last week after i installed RA patch. It used to be use rslinx to communication until the patch installed. I started seen use factorytalk linx. I believe I don't have any factory linx installed at this laptop.

any help will be greatly appreciated

thanks

As a test I just patched up my v9.0 install on a Win 7 virtual computer. I can't duplicate that problem. I'm guessing it has something to do with your ME application.

Try uninstalling and re-installing the patches. Even if not prompted to re-boot, always do so after any install/uninstall.

If my problem, I would also try:

Run the Windows Firewall Configuration Utility.

Run the FactoryTalk Directory Server Location Utility and make sure it shows localhost and 'connected'. If not, run the FactoryTalk Directory Configuration Utility on the local directory. And then reboot. (Maybe just do that anyway.)

Give up and rebuild the application. Shouldn't be too difficult to import the elements from the old files and rebuild the Linx config.

Good luck.

Tech Support might have more guidance, but they'll probably ask you to upgrade to version <something newer than 9.0>.

I talk to RA tech support today, we tried a lot different way try to to fix factory talk linx. no lucky.
as you mention, the final solution is upgrade to factorytalk view studio ME version 11 which has factory talk linx v6.11. that worked for me.
