Have a "standard" or very commonly used bench top variac fused for 10 amp -- output is 0 to 140 VAC. The question I have is this
is it an autotransformer or an isolated secondary transformer??

BACKGROUND
Have a need to bench test AC and DC components (motors solenoids relays etc) at various voltages.
PLAN bring in 120 and then select for either 120 Line or Variac ie "LINE or VARIAC".
IF autotransformer I intend to isolate the primary and the secondary with contacts on the "LINE or VARIAC" select switch.
I will only break the hot conductor and not the neutral.

Either Line (120 AC) or Variac will supply full wave bridge. This will also be a controlled function of the "LINE or VARIAC" select switch.

There will be analog readouts for each of AC and DC volt and current. I may go digital on this to conserve space and to prevent pegging analog meter needles.

Any other thoughts? Have I got my mind right??
