i have an inching application where i was thinking of using an allen bradley smart gaurd 600,i havent worked with them before and wondered if anyone new if it would be suitable for my application which is:- a two handed control pendant for inching.first you press both momentary push buttons (1 nc,1no on each) and let go an alarm sounds for 4 secs, if the buttons are pressed within 7 secs the machine will inch for as long as the buttons are pressed and another 7 secs would be allowed each time the machine is inched.if the 7 secs times out then the 4 secs alarm would sound again. i dont want to buy one and find i cant use it,also this is for safety so a regular plc wont do.thanks

I used the SmartGuard 600 on a pretty large application (9 slave units on Devicenet, 13 safety zones, and the program capacity of the unit was maxxed out). Overall I was satisfied with the results. It was pretty easy to configure and has run trouble-free for about a year now. The true power of the SmartGuard (and the Omron NE1A, which is identical) is that you can create networked safety over standard Devicenet hardware. If you only need a standalone unit, I think the SmartGuard might be overkill.

You may want to consider the Omron G9SP. This unit uses the same function block programming as the SmartGuard/NE1A, but is standalone and MUCH cheaper.

There are timing modules available in the programming, but I don't know if they would be suitable for your application. You can download a demo of the G9SP software, which includes a simulator.

thanks for the link i found the simulator a great help, although im struggling to achieve what i want to do with the available function blocks, what other safety plc's are available with better funtionality at not too higher cost or could i achieve what i want to do with any hard wired safety relays/timers?
