Hi All

Less than one day on this board and my second topic already!

Anyway, I am looking at getting some programming software to allow me to modify an S5 115U programme and download this to the PLC.

Now Siemens can offer me the following:

Part No. 6ES58940MA04 S5 Simatic Software

Cost: well over GBP 2000

I understand the the above is basically a tarted up DOS package which will run (just) on Win XP.

I have been looking at the following:

http://www.softwaretoolbox.com/store/item_pages/itempage_510.asp

Cost USD 795

I have been playing with the demo for a few days and it looks ok. However I do not have experience of the S5 so I am worried about any potential pitfalls if I go for the cheaper (much cheaper!)third party software.

Does anyone have any experience or advice in using this package or any other 3rd party S5 programming software.

Any advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks

hmmm ..interesting..but ultimately confusing???

I am interested if anyone has used the paticular software I mentioned in my previous post...although I have to say, the more I use the demo the more I like it...........

Anyone got any more experience then please let me know.

Software I liked best.

Peter,

I have been to the Siemens S5 programming 1 and 2 and used the freeware/demo version from the following sight.

I never went on line with the plc (wrong cables), but did all the class programming and saved it to disk then used there PG to upload the program. We use it here at work also. We do all of our off line edits using it. It is windows based and much better than the Siemens software. It will also work with both S5 and S7 plc's. We found out about it from one of our OEM's, they do not even use Siemens software at all because of having to work with both S5 and S7.

You may want to download it and try it. I tried acouple of other demo versions of S5 software and this is what I liked best. Good luck.

Thanks for the information. I will download the demo programme and test it out. Looks nice from the screen shots.
