posted question on Mitsubishi A273, A2N S1, A2NCPU, and Siemens S5 115 regarding data aquisition and scada. Is it possible using E600 HMI with ethernet card to get transparency between ethernet network and s5 115 files direct? Or is it possible to put siemens and mitsubishi plc,s on same 485 network and put network card in pc. Any help much appreciated.

Dont know much about mitsubishi or "E600" HMI.
Quite sure that Mitsi and S5 plcs cant talk directly to each other over Ethernet, even though they might co-exist on the same network.

But for S5-115U comm. you have the following options:
TTY on the PG port . Slow but the easiest and most obvious choice, can work even with an Ethernet/serial converter for PC comm.
Profibus with a CP5430 or CP5431 card . Fast and the obvious choice for larger amounts of data. Also more expensive.
Ethernet (SINEC H1) with a CP1430 card . Fast. Expensive.

edit: There are many other possibilities, but they are more esoteric, and you dont want that, considering how fast the S5 range is getting obsolete.

The question is what you want to do, exchange data ? do some HMI ?
With OPC you should be able to do it all on a PC.
Many commercial HMI's and SCADA's supports S5 TTY PG comm directly, if thats all you need then that seems to be the easiest and cheapest solution.

By the way, the whole S5 range is going into retirement. I wouldnt invest too much in a solution for the S5.

NB: ": o :" isnt exactly a descriptive topic eh ?
