The 2711-T5A3L1 PanelView Standard terminal is equipped with a Data Highway 485 (DH485) network port.
While this port uses an 8-position modular plug, commonly called an "RJ45", it is not an Ethernet port.
Do not connect the PanelView to an Ethernet switch or to any other Ethernet device.
The only way to connect that PanelView terminal to the CompactLogix controller will be to connect the CompactLogix serial port to a 1761-NET-AIC isolator module, then connect the PanelView terminal to the "DH485 trunk" port of the 1761-NET-AIC isolator using a 1761-CBL-AS03 cable or equivalent.
Download the 1761-NET-AIC user manual from the Rockwell Automation Literature website (
Publication 1761-UM004). This document includes good descriptions of the use of this module to connect to a DH485-type PanelView terminal.
In particular, the "Three Node OEM Network" diagram on page 24 is good, as it illustrates the connection of a PLC and a computer to the DH485 network.
You would use a 1761-CBL-PM02 cable to connect the CompactLogix serial port to the 1761-NET-AIC, instead of the -AM00 or -HM02 cable shown connected to the MicroLogix 1000 in the picture.
