Hi!

I don't work often with PLCs and networking but one of our customers is expanding and I could use some advice.

We only have one s7-1200 in the building (many many LOGOs though), and we are in the process of installing another one. The new PLC s7-1200 will be in one end of the building and be used for statistics only. In the future this PLC will be used to collect data for statistics from the other end of the factory. And here is where I could use some advice.

My first initial thought was to put a new s7-1200 in the other end and just transfer the inputs from it to the PLC running the statistics. A remote I/O. But then I could just aswell install a ET200S Profinet and use it as an I/O. I checked the price and the s7-1200 would be cheaper. Why would I choose the one over the other?

/Tim
