Every now and again I get one of the Siemens' blinking yellow triangles with its exclamation mark turn up in the Windows task tray. Opening it up I get the following message from the Simatic Net Configuration Message Service (loosely translated from the original German):

The Protocol-Trace for the SR Protocol is enabled.
This results in SR-Jobs being slowed down significantly. Access to OPC-SR-Variables is also affected.
Deactivate the Protocol-Trace in order to speed up execution of SR Jobs.

1) What are SR-Jobs and the SR-Protocol?
2) Where can I deactivate the Protocol-Trace?

Searching for those keywords in the help file produces nothing relevant.

Hello Ron;

SR protocol is a Siemens S5-compatible protocol for Industrial Ethernet (ISO and ISO-over-TCP). It breaks down to Send/Recieve protocol. The equivalent protocol for S7 is S7-SAPI. It seems that they have decided to integrate it in their OPC communication suite.
I cannot help you much with the deactivation of the trace, except that by experience Siemens' logging always has to be triggered. There must be a setting (in the tools menu dialog, possibly) where you can activate/disactivate different trace files.
Hope this helps,
Daniel Chartier
