In our production plant we have multiple different networks (subnets). IT dept have setup routing between them so different subnets can communicate. When I connect my laptop to Network A and let it automatically assign me an IP address and hit ipconfig in cmd i get the following details
IPv4: 172.16.102.58
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 172.16.102.254
When I connect my laptop to Network B and let it automatically assign me an IP address and hit ipconfig in cmd i get the following details:
IPv4: 172.16.103.95
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 172.16.103.254
It means they are both in different subnet but If i ping a computer from network A to B i get the reply which means IT has setup routing between them therefore they can communicate.
Now, If i want to connect a PLC S7-1200 in network A and a Wincc Advanced or Unified PC in netwok B how can i make them communicate with each across these two different subnets? And what should be the IP configurations for the PLC and the WinCC in TIA Portal? I think I will have to use the "Use router" option but not sure which router address will be put in there. From what I understand i think the configuration should be like the following:
For PLC which is in network A:
IP: 172.16.102.x
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router Address: 172.16.102.254 (after checking the "Use Router" option)
For PC which is in network B:
IP: 172.16.103.x
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router Address: 172.16.103.254 (after checking the "Use Router" option)
Please check the configurations. Is this ok? If not then what is the procedure? Please guide as networking is something I am not good at.
