DTL_DRIVER_OPEN returns error 156

RsLinx dtl call DTL_DRIVER_OPEN randomly returns error 156 (invalid driver ID).

I am unable to determine the root cause of this. It is so random that it I am unable to track it down.

Can someone suggest in what conditions this can happen.
