I went to install IFIX 5.8 on a virtual machine for development and when I used the cloud-based licensing utility, it would say "Activated Successfully" but still show itself as unlicensed. I tried numerous times to no avail and then installed a different licensing client. It said for the cloud-based activation, you can't be running it on a virtual machine. So I found a post on another forum that talks about hiding VM presence from software, and I added this to my .vmx file:
monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = "true"
After restarting the VM, all the solution provider licenses were showing as valid, without having to re-download them again. They were already there, just invisible because it knew it was running inside a VM environment. Unless I am missing something here, they expect us to run the software on a physical box (which I will not be doing).
