One simple question: why?

Good question.. The reason thats a good question is that you need to define what you want from the PLC on your network. There are many good reasons why you would want to access the PLC from all PCs, but the how depends on the why..

What kind of PLC (make and model), and what do you want to do with it on the network?

What is the aim?
1. PLC control PCs?
2. PCs control PLC?

I had an ongoing project that uses PLC to link to a server, and from there startup a program at a number of PCs. I have yet got wind of the whole contract as it is still on the discussion stage.
But I have yet encounter a scene where a number of PCs controlling a PLC.
