failed to copy alarm.dat

Hi

Using RSview SE i wanted to copy my project to another
computer.when i start copy my project directory
it fails when it reaches alarm.dat
it keeps saying that another application is using this file.
i tried to shut down rslinx but no use.
what to do ?

You need to use the proper utility to move files between computers or to copy/backup your project, since RSView SE entangles itself in your operating system very thoroughly. Try this utility from Rockwell (if you are already using it, ignore this comment):

This is very likely to be your troublemaker by your description of the problem.


If you are using the proper utility already, try stopping all alarm logging and alarm services from inside RSView SE via the commmand line using the AlarmLogOff and AlarmOff commands. Occasionally this causes trouble.

Finally, you can stop all Rockwell services (look for "services" under administrative tools in your control panel). This will definitely stop all processes using RSView SE files, but this is cumbersome and you can mess things up if you are not careful - last resort only!
