I read your post that you cannot get online with your PG740, but with another PG there is no problem. Then it does look like that there is a problem with the PG740 like you conclude yourself.

Not easy to pinpoint with the given information.
Try to go online again, and when the error code appears, then
1. Write down the exact eror code.
2. see if there is a button in the dialog that pops up with a text like "Details.." or similar. That button usually provides much more information about the problem.

One reason that I can think of that your STEP7 version is too old so that it does not support the CPU.
