PLC-2 Software

We are setting up a new Dell Laptop for troubleshooting PLC applications. These apps include AB PLC-5, SLC-500, CLX, etc. In the past we have been told that our AB PLC-2 (6200 v3.5) software will not work on our newer computers. This was the official word. Have there been any work arounds developed yet or adventurous souls that just wanted to make the link to the past?

Thank you,

Where could I go to find how the dos handles the PCMK card. I am not clear how the comm drivers are going to work. We have the "B" version.

Thank you,

I may have spoken out of turn kind of. If using 6200 software with a PCMK card then you should have the associated drivers,

The only thing that will change is you will need to boot to win9x or dos to run the software.

Gotta do what ya gotta do, otherwise upgrade whatever is necessary.

Don't remember for sure, but I don't think a series B PCMK will work with a PLC2. I do remember all kinds of "fun" trying to get the old PCMK drivers configured right in DOS, then still having enough memory to run the software. Anyone remember Memmaker??

From memory, that's the version developed by Dynapro that uses their Chronos operating system. Chronos has to load over DOS and is incompatible with any version of windows. It was originally developed for Advisor PC and ControlView. Can't say for sure, but it may also be incompatible with pentium-class processors.

I'm unaware of a cable to connect a PCMK to a PLC2.
The 1784-KP interface was used on desktops, don't recall if the -KT could be used.

The cable does exist -- but it was for a series A only.

There was also a Smart Cable -- don't remember who made it, though. Seems like it came with the Icom version of the software.

We were informed that the old (yet newer) A.I. series was compatible with the new computers and PCMK cards. We were even able to purchase a cable to do so. But all our anticipations came crashing down around us when they then informed us that we couldn't do this with 6200.

Ya' know... just a thought here...

Your best plan really ought to be replacing those PLC2's. They're obsolete. They're not supported. If they're like the ones we still have, they're starting to get flakey. They're a huge downtime just waiting to happen. There's a reason why the software doesn't work with new computers -- that platform is 25 years old and hasn't been active for more than 10 years...

Replace them, then you don't need to worry about how to communicate to them.

Just to confirm from distant memory (before we replaced our PLC2's)
the pcmk/b definitely works with PLC2. I still have the cable, its a 1784-PCM2/B its got an extra earth cable attached to it on the plc end for ppl who remember. We had a laptop set up with dos 6.2 and windows 3.11. We used 6200 software.
Hope this helps.

To add to the detail above if I fail to connect the earth cable before plugging in data cable I always crash my PLC2 application
