Dear fellows,
I am interfacing 4 line VFD display with mitsubishi FX2n PLC using transistor output module. The output transistor module is open emitter rather then open collector. Please guide about the hardware interface between Display and PLC (Display is conventional 4-line display with 8 data lines, one RS, one R/W and one Enable line).

cheers,

Mashood

Never heard of such a thing. Are you sure the FX can support it? Most of those devices I've seen are serial communications based, and that would not be using PLC outputs.

I know what you are trying to do, however plc's are not very good at fast scan on digital outputs to load a binary pattern onto outputs & then strobe the lcd.

The update of the outputs will be slow in terms of using them to map an lcd display if you do not mind the chars refresh rate to be like a scrolling display.

assuming this is an industrial application it would be almost as cost effective to use one of the propriatry text HMI's

After you have built the interface, larger plc to cater for the i/o required for the display etc.....

I agree with you. In fact, I am creating an HVAC system and HMI will definitely increase the cost as compared to a cheap LCD display. I am trying and i hope to make it. Any suggestion in this regard will be welcomed,
Cheers,

Look at my HMI for the Mitsubishi priced at $179. You can run my HMI on a cheap laptop.
