Dear All,

I have problem on connecting DH485 network to ethernet network.
I had bought SLC5/05 and setup the SLC5/05 as passthru for DH485 network to communicate with the new installed Ethernet system. However, I can't find the pin assignment for the SLC5/05 RS232 port when act as DH485. BTW the old system was setup by 12nos. SLC5/02 and connect to 1747-AIC module. I had try some wiring and can't find the one right for my setup. Would anyone pls kindly share with me your experience and the DH485 pin assignment!!

Thousand THZ in advance.

Best Rgds.,
Man

The interface between any SLC/MicroLogix RS232 port and a DH-485 network is the 1761-NET-AIC module.

You need a "null modem" serial cable to connect the SLC-5/05 Channel 0 RS232 port to the 1761-NET-AIC. Two popular ones are the 1747-CP3 (DB9F/DB9F) and the 1761-CBL-PM02 (DB9F/DIN8M).

The 1761-NET-AIC connects to the DH485 network with the same connector as the 1747-AIC did.

Net-AIC user manual:

The user manual is very helpful. Make sure to look at page 38. This describe the messaging limitations. You will only be able to start messages from your SLC5/05 not the other way around.

.....

I don't realize if I need the 1761-NET-AIC as DH485 convertor for my SLC5/05 DF1 port since it can be configurated as DH485 port. Can I just connect the SLC5/05 DF1 port to 1746-AIC which was connected to existing SLC5/02.

Thousand THZ for your kindly support!!!!

Thank You for your information.

nautical, the 1761-NET-AIC is NOT a DF1 to DH485 protocol converter, it is an RS232 to RS485 signalling converter.

Your SLC-5/05 Channel 0 serial port may be configured for several different protocols, including DF1, ASCII, and DH485. But electrically, it conforms to the RS232 signalling standard.

The Data Highway 485 (DH485) network between the SLC-5/02 controllers and 1747-AIC isolators is a 3-wire RS485 signalling link. Because this is electrically a different signalling system than the RS232 port on the SLC-5/05, a signal converter is used. The 1761-NET-AIC is ideal for this application.

Thanks for your clear explanation. I will purchase a 1761-NET-AIC now.

Wish you all the best!!
