SLC505 bar code reading

Setting up a Sick Barcode reader to communicate with the serial port of the SLC.

Getting the barcode in the following format when I scan

\9E\9E\98\E0\E0\E6\9E\9E\E0\98\E0\F8\E6\86\98\9E\F8\86\98\FE

Anyone know why?

I was expecting a normal ascii string?

I would check your communication settings to see if each device is set correctly.
