A CompactLogix based system collects three values. I like to select the number that is closest to the value 15.0. What is a efficient method of determining which value is the closest to 15.0. I am thinking about subtracting 15 and make it absolute number. Then compare the results to each other to find the smallest number.

Consider using the FAL instruction. If you have FB and ST language extensions then look at the ESEL instruction.
