Hello,
I am new to PLC...
I have a program on a disk that I need to load onto a FX-EEPROM-4.
The only cable I have to do it is a FX20P cable which appears to be PS2 to parallel. On the PS2 end the switch is set to Stop (I assume that is correct and it should not be set to run) The problem is in MEDOC version 2.41 I can only change the port from COM1 to ~ COM 130 or so .... then it loops back to COM1. I don't see any option for LPT1. My PLC type is FX. Can anyone provide assistance?

Don't worry it's not dumb... as I said I am new to PLC ... It is a female DB-25 parallel port on the computer. The end of the cable appears to be DB-25 male I don't know if it is 25 pin serial or parallel.

So perhaps my cable is 25 pin serial and I am plugging it into my parallel port causing no communication to occur?

I have the handheld unit... so it looks like to connect to the computer I will need DB9 Female to DB25 Female connector and plug into my computers COM port?

I'm not familiar with this particular handheld unit, however, all the HandHeld Units that I have used connected to a PLC not a computer. Just a few questions. Does the FX-EEPROM-4 plug into the HHU or the PLC? Are you trying to get a program moved from a computer to an EEPROM or to a PLC? Here is a link for a programming cable that may be some help. I think it is for connecting between a computer and the FX series PLC's. See Post #8 attached pdf file.

Sorry for the confusion, I have the FX-EEPROM-4 attached to the PLC. The PLC has power and I can use it with the HHU. The cable that connects the PLC to the HHU appears to be PS2 (or something that is so similar it actually plugs into a ps2 mouse port... referred to as Male MINI DIN8 on diagram) on both the end that goes into the PLC and the end that goes into the HHU. In the middle of the cable there is a male to female DB-25 connection. I was thinking of using a modem or printer DB-25 to DB-9 cable off a popular electronics website to connect (by removing the half of the cable that goes to the HHU and replacing it with the purchased cable) to the serial port on my computer. Is this likely to work or do you think I would need the cable mentioned in Post#8 of the link you sent me above?

To answer your questions, I am trying to connect the PLC (with FX-EEPROM-4 attached to it) to the computers serial port to do a compare of the program on the FX-EEPROM-4 with the one stored on disk. Or I could just move the one on the disk to the FX-EEPROM-4... that would be fine too.

You need an SC09 cable and either the old MEDOC software or GX Developer FX
You can then do a 'compare'

(the sc09 has a protocol convertor in it so making your own will not work)
