Is SQL Server OPC Client compliant?

I have a client that is running Microsoft SQL Server on the computer, and logging some live data. Now, he wants to connect this PC to a modicon PLC via modem, and say use the Kepware OPC server with Modbus driver to read the data from the PLC. But, he would like to also write some data from the SQL Server into this PLC. He doesn't need the full blown HMI application for it; all what we need is to write periodically one value from SQL Server into OPC Server/PLC. I understand that this SQL server has to act like an OPC client; is this correct?

I think he would need to use something like the sql bridge module from inductive automation.

the sql bridge would connect to the database and also connect to the kepware opc server, then you could setup your transactions to run when needed between the two.

Kepware also has a driver that is part of their KepserverEX product called ODBC, which is an interface for databases.

If you find that you will be in need of a third driver, I would suggest the Manufacturing Suite in that it will be less expensive than purchasing three drivers individually.

I had a similar project and I have used OPC Client for ODBC ... since you have an OPC Server already, all you need to do is connect to your OPC Server to your ODBC source.

I used it years ago to log data from Kepware OPC server into SQL server database.
It worked really well.

Uou have two options to write data from SQL server to OPC:
Option 1: Use Integration Objects OPC DA Archiverhttps://integrationobjects.com/opc-products/opc-data-archiving/opc-da-archiver/
Option 2: Use Integration Objects OPC server for SQL server to load data into an OPC server and then OPC data transfer to transfer data from Integration Objects OPC server to your OPC server.
