I have only worked with one AS-i system so I'm no expert. Here's what I know, AS-i experts please correct me where I go wrong. The AS-i system is used to make one run of cable instead of multi-wire hard wired connections to a PLC, Everything feeds back to an AS-i master controller. The AS-i master communicates with a PLC or PC or some other type of controller hardware running a control program. The system I worked with was connected on ethernet I/P. The HMI's were connected on ethernet I/P along with the AS-i system and the PC running a program written in C++. The HMI's read information about the system which was controlled by the AS-i master which got it's instructions from the PC's program. The short answer to your question I think is "yes, almost any HMI connected to an AS-i system can display the system I/O" as long as the HNI is connected with the same communications protocol. The bad news is you are not reading directly from the AS-i system, you will be reading the control programs I/O states. There will have to be a controller of some kind running the system.
