I have an old panel with a Control Logix PLC that I wish to communicate with over Ethernet. I have tried to PING the controller ... tried to search for the address using the standard 192.168.__.__ 10.0.__.__ etc but with no success, Is there a simple way of searching for the address without knowing? If I had the old program, I could probably find it from an off line search .... but no program is available.
Any help/suggestions will be appreaciated

Hi Neil Grimsley, your old friend from MSCC here!!

use BOOTP-DHCP server application from Rockwell, to determine the IP addy of the PLC

kind regards

How does that work if the BOOTP option is turned off?
I didn't think it did either. Also BOOTP/DHCP becoming impossible to get working on Windows 7 based server. New Symatic Endpoint protection is a pain. It allows incoming
packet to windows, but blocks response. User sees response on the screen, but nothing on the wire. If local IT policy does not allow to disable Network Protection, then
user can't use it.

Drilling down through the serial port the to the ENET module works best...if someone hasn't stuck a bar code scanner or some ascii device on it.

Warning, this is a product I sell. The IP Explorer DHCP and Bootp Server is a handheld device that allows you to read/write the IP address and turn BOOTP on/off. It might be helpful to you in this situation.

You could try a program called wireshark, it is a network traffic monitoring software. It is a free download. If the PLC is transmitting, it may pick it up. It displays IP address for all traffic.
