How to limit String length in RSLogix5000?

In RSLogix 500 I have used the AEX command to limit the # of characters in a string variable. But AEX does not exist in 5000.

I have tried the MID instruction in 5000 with some problems.

I want to limit a string to 4 characters. So ABCDEF would be truncated to ABCD.

Any ideas?

Move a 4 into the string's .LEN. This will force the string to be 4 characters (the first 4)

Create a new string type with only 4 characters.
