Hello all-- I am new here, and also new to PLCs and programmable relays; I've done some prior work with some simple electromechanical control systems, but am new to programmable technologies. A tiny PLC-type device like the Siemens Logo may be a really good fit for my current project where I need to monitor and control a wood gasification boiler/ heat storage/ building heat system (I need to monitor temperatures at the boiler, storage, and building and send hot water in the appropriate different directions).
So here's my question, which I cannot seem to answer for myself even after downloading and reading through all the Siemens Logo install and user manuals:
Will the Siemens Logo "expansion modules" such as the AM2 PT100 (temperature sensor input expansion module) be powered by the "main" Logo controller (I'd probably use a Logo 230RC) or will the expansion modules need their own DC power source?
When I look at the right-hand side diagram on page 2 here:
http://support.automation.siemens.c...ib.csFetch&nodeid=28827387&forcedownload=true
[in case that link does not survive the process of posting this question, that's Siements Document number A5E00159444-05 on connecting expansion modules ]
for the connection of the AM2 PT100 expansion module, it gives me the impression that the expansion module will need its own DC power input. I am hoping I am wrong and that the expansion module _will_ be powered by the "main" logo 230RC module
Guidance and suggestions much appreciated!
Thanks
