Powerflex 527 with Encoder Option card-Planning on using plug from the drive to motor

We plan on having a stationary panel with a PLC , 3 Powerflex 527 drives , with the incremental encoder from the motor to the encoder option card in the Powerflex 527 drive. My question is , we are going to have 2 molder machines that are the same , but they are portable. I would like to make a plug that will connect all the I/O to the main panel. How would an incremental encoder work with being connected to a plug ? Do you think it will be stable ?

Thanks so much for your help.

I have connected encoder cables on terminals with no issue. There no reason that it wouldn't work on plug. You just have to make sure your RFI is ok and of course the reliable connection is important, so really good plug.

Also I haven't seen recommendation for not doing it, as you don't run direct cable from encoder, but you have at least one connection between the prefabricated encoder cables ad the cable to the motor. I am not sure, but I think the DB9 connector should perform ok for this purpose, as some encoders come with this type prefabricated connector.

It provides you better RFimmunity and works on longer distances. You need to check the 527 documentation but AB usually accepts 24DC encoder signal.

What if I use a Flex I/O 1794-ID2 , and use Ethernet wireless to the PLC , to control my speed ? I am going to be using Ethernet anyway for my HMI on this
portable machine . I am thinking of using Flex I/O on the entire machine. How well does the 1794-ID2 keep up in a wireless application ?

Thanks so much for your help.
