Maybe you'd like to share your discovery with everyone else?
That way if someone does a search they can find the information.

So you found the pinout for ONE PARTICULAR RJ45 connector which happens to be carrying a MODBUS protocol signal. I don't believe there is any STANDARD for these connections. In fact we have two types of AC drives, AB Powerflex and Control Techniques Commander SK which have very different pinouts for their MODBUS protocol ports which use RJ45 connectors.

Thumbs up Use the RS232/RS485 pinout database project

You can use the Online Pinout Database to lookup RS232/RS485/RS422 pinouts for all different kinds of connectors DB9,DB25,RJ11,RJ12,RJ45,MINIDIN8. It also classify whether a device is DCE or DTE.

As of today has 715 pinouts covering 157 manufacturers, including:

RJ45 terminal block adapter

JohnW,

Thank you for your patronage.

Currently we don't have distributorship in Europe.

Email me your address and I will see if I can mail one sample to you just for grins.

Cheers.

The 9-pin connector on a MicroLogix 1400 controller is a DTE-type RS-232 connector.

Those are actually standardized, unlike the original "Modbus on RJ45" question that started this thread.

The pinout is in the MicroLogix 1400 User Manual, Publication 1766-UM001, starting on Page 76.

humm doest it mean i would need a 232 to 485 converter if my customer is looking to get a modbus RTU connectivity over 485...

I have tried din8 (CH0) or DB9 (Ch2) without any success actually...

I recommend starting a new thread for your application, Jeff.

The MicroLogix 1400 has two serial ports; Channel 0 is the round Mini-DIN8 port, and Channel 2 is the DB9 port.

Channel 0 has both RS-232 and RS-485 pins. You select which ones are active by setting the Handshaking mode in RSLogix 500.

Channel 2 is a full RS-232 port, so if you want to use it with an RS-485 device, you need a signal converter.

Create a new thread with information on the Modbus device you are trying to communicate with, and the Forum can probably provide plenty of good advice.
