Clamp on shaft encoders or speed sensors

Good Morning ,

We have a large machine with a number
of shafts , and I would like to monitor those
to make sure they are constantly running the
desired speed .

Do you folks know of any clamp on type
encoders or speed sensors ? I ask this , because
we don’t want to drill and tap , or really modify
anything.

I googled this type of speed sensor and encoder
but really didn’t find anything .

Depends on what you are going to do with it and how fast... a simple prox going to a high speed input works a lot of the time.

I have also used Pepperl & Fuchs to monitor with a stand alone package that would just give the PLC an input if the RPM was to slow

Sounds like what your looking for is a hollow shaft encoder such as these:

I just looked at Georges suggestion of electro-sensors.com. They have some simple ones that clamp on the end of a shaft or magnet onto the end of a shaft and produce a 4-20ma signal for speed. I'm making note of that for future projects.
