CompactLogix L24ER thermocouple issues

Are you using a factory made type J thermocouple with type J wire or just a length of type J wire with the ends twisted together? Do you have access to a process calibrator that can source a TC signal?

If you have a calibrator, you can measure/simulate the signal and see where the issue is (TC or input). As has been suggested, double check your connections for cleanliness. I haven't used the embedded TC input on that PLC, but other modules I've used just worked with minimal fussing as long as the TC and wiring were good.
