Since AB finally made it so that you can restore an MER file back to an application, I have not been able to find any difference between restoring the MER versus archiving and then restoring the APA. Does anyone know of any disadvantages to simply recovering the MER?

Restoring an MER will not transfer any runtime security settings (user id's, passwords) to the development file, nor will it transfer kepserver directory files if you are using any OPC communications.

Other than that, I don't know of any disadvantages. It's often more convenient for me to upload an MER from the terminal, then make my changes to that file, rather than try to verify that an APA or MED file on my computer is identical to the current application.

Yeah... I have a Panelview created in 5.10. My software is 5.00. FE WILL NOT let met load the .mer file using the shortcut method by running the file and copying the data.

We're in a little tizzy over why the newer software got used by our third party, this may cost us some bux to fix. As far as I know, the apa would work fine.

Why wouldn't you have the same issue with the APA? I know that I can't restore anything ver6 and above with 5.10.

Yeah we have the same problem at work. Our third party works out of 6.0 while we still use 5.1. They have the ability to save their development file as an older version when they create a runtime file, but if they forget to do that, then of course we can't recover the file on our computers. Can be a real pain, to say the least.
