G3red lion(eurothem penguin)to SLC 5/02

Ladies & Gent's,
I am lookig to connect to an older SLC 5/02(1746-L524) unit. What should I be aware of?? I am assuming I can connect via the RS232 or Rs485 connection directly to plc unit.I have been using this unit with good success connecting to a "CLICK"plc. This will be first go round with old AB unit.

Be aware that the Fixed Hardware style SLC, the 5/01 and the 5/02 do not initiate token generation for the DH485 network. So, any DH485 driver used with a 5/02 or older SLC needs to take care of that. Last time I checked, the Crimson 3.0 DH485 Master driver does not support those models. However, the techs at Red Lion may have a 'trial' driver that deals with this. It may have never been finished, but they do know about the issue and have looked at solving it.

If there is a PIC, UIC module or one of several other devices on the network to generate the first token and keep token passing going then it will work. If not, then the G3 and the 5/02 will both sit there waiting like shy school kids afraid to speak to each other.

Something to try??

I read that the SLC 5/02 plays nice with the cmore unit. I wonder of I could buy the cheapest version with 2 ports and make a simple screen list of the tags I need to use in the slc 5/02 and manipulate them with the G3 thru the other port??

Has anyone tried this ??

When you connect to that PLC you will need to set the Generate Initial Token setting to Yes in the driver configuration.
