How to Detect Ethernet Com Fail to a VFD?

With RSLogix5000, how do I detect a com fail on a Ethernet VFD?

I usually use Ethernet to talk to another PLC where I'll program a heartbeat signal on both ends. With the VFD, (I'm not using implicit messaging) it just sits in my IO tree and I poll the input and outpu assembly instances. Is there a way to "pick off" the yellow triangles?

Based on what you have expressed, you may want to consider the following:

This would be a way to monitor your Ethernet devices, granted it isn't through RSLogix, but will likely give you more capabilities.

Thanks Bernie, exactly what i was looking for. On another note have you ever added a Micrologix to your IO tree?

You wouldn't. If you just want to use messaging to the Micrologix it doesn't need to appear here. Just like a display isn't entered in the I/O tree. Only units that the Control/CompactLogix will automatically interrogate for I/O data are included in this.

Don't put any PLC-5, SLC-5/05, or MicroLogix controller into the Ethernet I/O tree of a ControlLogix family controller.

They don't support Produced/Consumed Tags or slave I/O connections, and the attempts by the ControlLogix to establish one can interfere with the normal operation of the PLC/SLC/MicroLogix network port.
