I am a very new PLC learner, I stuggle a bit with the jargon, and I have been dropped in the deep end.

I have to connect to a PLC controlling a Water treatment plant to and take some screen shots of the processes.

What software will I need and cn someone talk me through it please.

Thanks in advance

Nick

Further to my post above:

The system is having a problem with one of it's processes, a pump is not starting. The data file and design parameters are located with the parent company in Germany.

I have been contracted by the agent to rectify the problem but am out of my depth I have none of the "ins & outs" other than what I know through my experience with the system. my work usually consists of mechanical fault rectification and operator training, the PLC normally give no trouble.

I have been asked to use Teamveiwer to allow the Germans to log in but I have also been asked to spend some time creating a word picture of the fault including screen shots. I have a second system available to compare against also to assist with this.

G'day Nick,

The TSX micro is a pretty old bit of gear. I haven't worked with them myself but I believe the software you need to go online with these is PL7. If you do not have the software and cables required then you're not going to get too far here.

If this is not your normal line of work, I'd recommend getting in a specialist. You could try Max Tarr Electrical, they're from your neck of the woods. I'm not sure if they will be able to help With this particular PLC but they're worth a try. Otherwise I'd say give Schneider a call, they can probably put you in touch with someone close who knows the legacy modicon stuff.

You don't want to be fumbling through this without professional assistance, it's not worth the stress.

PL7 is the software and a TSX PCX 3030 is the USB to mini-DIN programming adapter required.

The software is terrible as is the documentation, and support down here is almost non-existant. Funnily enough I was actually doing some programming literally 5 minutes ago (currently doing a safety project that has to interface with a TSX PLC) and it's unbelievable how bad this software is when compared with the likes of RSLogix500 which is from a similar era.

As above I'd suggest getting in touch with your local Schneider rep to get some assistance if it's not something you've ever done before. They should be able to send you a 14 day trial version of the software too otherwise it is around $2k list price from memory.

Once you have the software and the cable, hook up to the PLC, get Teamviewer up and running and let the Germans do the rest.
