PC to PV550 communication

welcome to the Forum !

The first rule of all PanelView communication questions is "post the complete part number of the terminal".

The communications cable and RSLinx Classic driver configuration will depend on the network option of the terminal, which is determined by the part number.

Your PV supports DH485 protocol. You will need a 1747-PIC or a 1747-UIC ( USB to DH485 converter).
The 1747-PIC will require a real serial port on you PC. If you have that then use the 1747-PIC/AIC+ driver in RSLinx.
If you do not have a real serial port then the 1747-UIC will work.

Or use a memory card to load/upload the PV's program. See recent thread about that.

What is the PV connected to?

Hello Gentlemen,
Sorry for the delayed response, there is so much to do in so little time. I am having problems with the 1747PIC and the 147UIC. I am using a Compactlogix L43 CPU with a 1768 ENBT. I have configured the ENBT. Can you give the steps on how to configure the PC to the terminal? Panelview and Panelbuilder is relatively new to me.

Thanks,
PLCS

The 2711-T5A3L1 PanelView Standard terminal is equipped with a Data Highway 485 (DH485) network port.

While this port uses an 8-position modular plug, commonly called an "RJ45", it is not an Ethernet port.

Do not connect the PanelView to an Ethernet switch or to any other Ethernet device.

The only way to connect that PanelView terminal to the CompactLogix controller will be to connect the CompactLogix serial port to a 1761-NET-AIC isolator module, then connect the PanelView terminal to the "DH485 trunk" port of the 1761-NET-AIC isolator using a 1761-CBL-AS03 cable or equivalent.

Download the 1761-NET-AIC user manual from the Rockwell Automation Literature website (Publication 1761-UM004). This document includes good descriptions of the use of this module to connect to a DH485-type PanelView terminal.

In particular, the "Three Node OEM Network" diagram on page 24 is good, as it illustrates the connection of a PLC and a computer to the DH485 network.

You would use a 1761-CBL-PM02 cable to connect the CompactLogix serial port to the 1761-NET-AIC, instead of the -AM00 or -HM02 cable shown connected to the MicroLogix 1000 in the picture.
