Pls explain filter constant in analog IO config of PLC5/40

Hi gents,

Can someone explain the filter constant as found in the analog IO configuration of a PLC5/40. In this case I'm looking at a channel on a 1771-NIC/C card. We know the higher the value, the more the input value is filtered, but what does the number itself represent?
