S7-1500 CPU and ET200M connection

Dear Experts,

I have a question regarding the redundant S7-1500 CPU and ET200M connection.

Will ET200M IOs work on a redundant S7-1500 Controller using IM 153-4 PN IO HF, or do we need an IE/PB Link for the MRP ring network to link the ET200M Modules?

Because based on my attached proposed system architecture, it uses an ET200MP and ET200SP because both of them do support PN S2 Redundancy.

Our customer wants to replace the S7-300 CPU with a redundant S7-1500 CPU and retain the ET200M Remote IO Modules.

Most likely the existing ET200M will not work. If you use the TIA Selection Tool (available online or for download) the only ET200M modules allowed in a redundant system are on ProfiBus DP (IM153-2 or IM153-2 HF)

For redundancy with S7-1500R the "only PN System redundancy S2 Devices are supported" (https://assets.new.siemens.com/siem...dundant-systems--techslides-2018-11-12-en.pdf) "PN" = Profinet, thus no Profibus.
ET200M redundancy only works over Profibus.
So, it seems they are mutually exclusive.
Also, you cannot use a PN/DP Gateway to link the redundant Profinet to redundant Profibus.

I've never seen them used in an S7-1500 system, but the HF ET200 PN interface module (6ES7153-4BA00-0XB0) says it supports S2 redundancy.


It isn't the full dual NIC redundancy that it can do with Profibus, but it's how they did PN redundancy with S7-400 until the new ET00SP HA came out.
