Siemens PDM Force Closing

Have recently had to install PDM (V8.1 SP1, running with Step7 V5.5 SP3), to configure some Sitrans flow sensors.
Had no problems installing and transferring device definitions, but if I try to carry out any task in PDM (e.g. communication settings!), then I get an instant dialogue box of:
Siemens.Automation.Pdm.FrameApplication has stopped working.
Can't find any threads or searches, so I'm not holding out much hope that many people have had the same issue... But any ideas would be great!
