slc 100/150 interface

I have to change timing on a machine using the slc 10. I have a new dell laptop and the slc 100/150 software and the communication cable. When I run the slc 100 software it tells me it can't find com port 1. My laptop doesn't have any com ports only usb ports. So when I try to link up with the plc it says it can not communicate. I even bought a usb adapter to connect to the slc 100 communication cable. I really need to change this timer. Does any one know how to link up my laptop to the plc?

You have only two options

1. get a computer with a serial port.
2. use a hand held programmer for the SLC150.

The adaptor for the SLC150 has to draw power from the port, power it cannot get from a USB-Serial adaptor. This is also a problem with the PIC moduels for SLC501s. AB now makes and adaptor that is USB compatible for the SLC501s, but there is no such adaptor for the SLC-150s. Thats a very old PLC line.

Actually you have three options. You can replace the SLC150 with a Micrologix. If you already have Logix500 programming software, this might be the most economical method, the micrologix is only a couple of hundred dollars. Once upon a time we had three of the SLC100/150s around here and all of them except oned have been changed out for a Micrologix 1000 or 1200.
