slc500 cannot get com to plc. bought cable and not on list in the rslinx

:( any help from you pros is welcome. im running windows 7. i downloaded an emulator and that works but i cant connect to plc via laptop. Im guessing i am missing the UIC 485 link in the linx list. so i uninstalled linx and loaded linx lite and that was even worse. so i restored computer and linx classic stopped working. SMH
