I am a water treatment plant operator tring to learn as much as I can about programming. We use TSX plcs (Quantum)and program ladder logic using Proworx. These are interfaced locally with Pcs running Citect 7.2. Remotely (15 sites) linked through Ethernet bridges-Pheonix Contact modems and leased line communications to Pheonix Contact modems and TSX Momentum processors. I am trying to teach myself so am looking for low cost training/manuals/books. Does anybody have some advice for me?

Gordon,

i can only give you this advice through years of experience.
1. learn as much as you can.
2. write down the process on paper. step by step.
3. draw the ladder logic on paper and think it through.

MOST importantly, DO not copy, edit, modify, alter, or do anything that can change the working program on the controlling pc! you could shut down the entire process.

Not meaning to slam you in any way, i worked in a plant where a new maintenence worker / plc programmer was looking at the program and accidently pressed a key that changed the communications to everything and the plant went down. 4 hours later, the plant was back on line.

regards,
james
